We are setting off for somewhere cosy: the Pic Epeiche gîte for groups, about ten kilometres from Chinon, is ideal for a bucolic break, for a night or a weekend. In this case, the Pic Epeiche (the woodpecker) is not a bird observatory, but the first eco-friendly gîte in the Loire Valley region. This accommodation won me over straight away with its use of healthy and natural materials. So let me take you there…
A genuine cocoon for a family reunion
Consisting of a main building and an annex, it can accommodate up to 24 people. Perfect for a little weekend... for a big family!
When I was searching for a place, I was warmly welcomed by Isabelle and Jean-François Archaimbault.
They are true ambassadors of their region and are really committed to promoting good local addresses and giving great advice.
I can already imagine the sound of the children playing in the garden during our next family reunion and the glasses of Chinon ringing to toasts on the terrace.
From the living room to the kitchen and the garden, there is everything we need to have a good time together… This eco-friendly guest house reminds me of the holiday camps of my childhood.. a big house with a lot of rooms.
In harmony with nature, an ecological gîte
A warm feeling of well-being invaded me when I walked into this gîte: I felt that I would sleep well! I breathed in the fresh air, no artificial smells and everything is made of natural materials, from floor to ceiling. Over 3 years, the owners renovated this old farmhouse to a high standard and following a high environmental quality approach. Here, all the materials are natural and ecological (lime, hemp, wood, terracotta brick…). This gives a warm cosy atmosphere, thanks to the colours of the earth and sand renderings… There is also authenticity in its walls of tuffeau stone, the emblematic white stone of the Loire Châteaux region.
It’s beautiful, as well as being kind to the planet: these materials were chosen to better insulate the house and therefore reduce energy consumption.
A great opportunity to (re)discover ideas for a different way of life… if you are interested, don’t hesitate to tell the owners: they know all there is to know about eco-building.
Ideal for a bike ride, a walk or even a horse ride
Isabelle and Jean-François Archaimbault also informed me that their gîte for groups can be rented for just one night and more. I’ll be able to come back for my next hikes…
The small village of Lerné, where the eco-friendly gîte is located, near Chinon, is a starting point for several hikes (Summer Trail of Saint Martin) or bike rides (Loire à Vélo and cycling circuits around the Chinon area).
And even on horseback! This is a haven of peace for horses: they will be pampered in their paddocks and boxes on-site while you are out and about.
Delight your taste buds with local flavours
Isabelle offered me an original experience for our family gathering: an evening around the bread oven, and the opportunity to taste a local speciality, the fouée garnished with local products. If you don’t know it, it is a small ball of bread baked over a wood fire, that can be filled with rillettes, goat’s cheese or jams, etc. It is as good savoury as it is sweet. It also lends itself to a friendly moment around the bread oven. I feel like we are going to have a splendid evening and an enjoyable country weekend!
One word of advice: book your weekend well in advance because this eco-friendly gîte near Chinon is a big success!
The added bonus: Isabelle also prepares breakfasts, picnic baskets and dinners which are made with 80% local and/or organic produce.
You can also offer an enchanted moment to your employees, as the house is equipped to host meetings and seminars.
If there are fewer of you, a second eco-friendly gîte, the Gite Tertuf, welcomes you 700m away, with its capacity of 12 people, which makes a total of 36 if you rent out both of them!!!
I will welcome you and share all my favourite addresses with you when you spend your holidays in Terres d’Azay-Chinon Val de Loire. I am a local adventurer with a love for food. I also like travelling while admiring the beauty of nature and trying all the delicious specialities of our local producers.Discover the experiences
