Alone - With another person - With my family - With my tribe

If you have some artistic leanings and are mad about pottery, with or without Patrick Swayze, then the village of La Borne is the place for you! In the Cher department, just a few kilometres from Bourges, immerse yourself for a day in the timeless nostalgia of this amazing site.

Discover La Borne

Beyond its aspect, in the words of my mother, of a country village of bygone days, La Borne is a genuine open-air pottery museum. Potters and ceramists open their workshops to you. Roam from house to house and discover the ancestral and traditional know-how of these craftworkers. What artistry! The local grès sandstone becomes waterproof after firing at 1280°C, and as they say here, ‘Grès is life’.

The Centre Céramique Contemporaine La Borne is a must on your creative and cultural tour. This 665m² glass gallery is a unique site, as are the creations it houses. It is also a venue for round tables, conferences and initiation sessions for the public in the art of ceramics.

Gather some energy before trying your hand at pottery

Once your appetite has been opened after all this exploring, a welcome break is called for at the restaurant L’Epicerie. A two-minute walk away, L’Epicerie offers a selection of delicious dishes made from local produce. You can also treat yourself to an afternoon break in the tearoom. Takeaway menu (hamper) as of 16 May 2020.

Now it’s time to get hands-on. How about learning to make your own souvenir item to display proudly at home? Choose from a 2 to 4-hour workshop to discover the joys of ceramics and pottery. Follow the guidance of your instructor, then let your imagination flow. Learn, create, share and have fun with the other potters of the day. Who knows, this initial discovery may even tempt you to return to the village of La Borne for a training course over several days.

La Borne – a great idea
