It’s summer holidays, and that means it’s time to plan two or three days on La Loire à Vélo exploring the banks of the Loire, discovering the majestic châteaux and breathing in the fresh air in beautiful Sologne! It’s sure to be an enriching experience for lovers of heritage and nature, who like to spend the night in the city and have unexpected experiences.

So, Ethic Etapes, you might be wondering what this name refers to? It’s quality tourist accommodation, with an ethical, non-profit team focused on welcoming everyone in a sustainable way. Loire Valley Ethic Etapes, which is only 3 kilometres from the centre of the royal city of Blois, displays its European Ecolabel with pride, and it is right to do so. Here, you can enjoy your holiday while respecting the environment and region. When you book a night with Ethic Etapes, you are acting as a responsible consumer for the good of our planet, without even knowing it. Everything is designed with cycle tours in mind – they have the “Accueil Vélo” label! So, what are you waiting for to discover the unmissable spots of the Loire Valley, such as Blois, Chaumont-sur-Loire, Amboise and Chambord, whether in a group or by yourself.

At Loire Valley Ethic Etapes, Albert is our host and guide for our entire stay. There’s a big family room vibe, where young and old are all mixed together. There’s plenty going on, but it’s all designed so that you feel at home when taking a break.

I can remember it all clearly… I settle myself comfortably into one of the many armchairs in the light-filled reception, a cold drink in one hand, a book in the other… I’m completely transported and everything else slips away, I’m totally relaxed. Another guest plays a tune on the grand piano and I let myself be carried away while reading my novel. It’s the perfect place to meet people and talk!

After the night in my room with shared toilets, I have the choice between breakfast on the terrace or in the restaurant. All meals are self-service, and, cherry on the cake, they’re made from fresh, seasonal products (as you no doubt remember, they are eco-labelled!). The chef-led team opts for French and regional products. It’s amazing for a facility that can serve up to 180 covers, yet it’s true.

Riding along the Loire to discover the Château of Chaumont-sur-Loire and Château of Le Clos Lucé

Time to get away and spend a day contemplating the riverside landscapes, as well as the Loire Valley’s rich history. Head out at dawn, with your hands on the handlebar, ready to cross the valley of kings and discover the châteaux one by one. The first is Domain of Chaumont-sur-Loire and its International Garden Festival. The château is perched 40 metres above the wild Loire. It promises to be an exciting morning!

For a relaxing lunch, we’d recommend stopping at the port of Chaumont and taking your pre-ordered picnic basket out of your backpack. In fact, why not take the opportunity to have a ride in a traditional boat on the Loire? It’s a unique experience, discovering the splendid Loire landscapes from the water. On the boat, time slows down and you can enjoy each passing moment, just for you.

The day continues, following in the footsteps of Leonardo da Vinci on a detour down a little lane, where you will discover the Château of Le Clos-Lucé in Amboise, made from pink brick and tuffeau stone. And to top it all off, a magnificent panoramic view to surprise you!

Explore Sologne and see the Château of Chambord

The next day, why not breathe in the fresh air of nature in Sologne and admire the iconic architecture of the majestic Château of Chambord? On your bike, follow the Loire and head straight for Chambord. The journey will not disappoint you! Chambord is the biggest and most remarkable château in the Loire region, with 426 rooms and 282 chimneys, located in the middle of 5,500-hectare grounds. Ahhh, the Renaissance! Lovers of architecture will lose their minds.

Many other packages are available for your stay. The amazing team at Loire Valley Ethic Etapes have a whole range of bike trails in store for you, depending on your preferences.

A weekend to recharge your batteries, where you’re guaranteed to unplug!

Having grown to love the Loir-et-Cher, I adore walking or cycling, taking the time to admire nature, especially along the Cher and Loire rivers.
